On Sunday, the final eight players of a 105 entry field (88 unique/17 reentries) returned to the Casino Sanremo to play to a winner in the 10,300 High Roller. It took just three hours of play for Ole Schemion to top a stacked final table that included Max Greenwood and Griffin Benger to capture the 265,000 first-place prize.

Action recommenced in Level 20 (8,000/16,000/2,000), and in the very first hand chip leader Philip Sternheimer raised to 38,000 from late position and short-stacked Imed Ben Mahmoud moved all in from the small blind.

The big blind folded and Sternheimer snap called, tabling the {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}. The Tunisian needed a lot of help with the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}, but it wasn't meant to be as the board ran out {10-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{7-Spades}. The World Series of Poker bracelet winner bowed out in eighth place, which earned him a 36,550 payday.

After the eliminations of Tamer Kamel and Benger in seventh and sixth place respectively, Mustapha Kanit followed them out the door in fifth.

It happened in Level 22 (12,000/24,000/3,000) when Kanit opened with a raise from the small blind, and Schemion defended from the big. The latter then called a bet of 43,000 on the {9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} flop before the dealer burned and turned the {A-Clubs}. Kanit bet again, this time 103,000, and again Schemion just called. When the {Q-Spades} completed the board on the river, Kanit announced that he was all in for roughly 350,000 and Schemion wasted little time in dropping in some chips to signify a call. Kanit confidently rolled over the {a-Spades}{4-Hearts} for two pair, but it was no good as Schemion had turned a bigger two pair with the {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}. Kanit earned 77,700 for his performance.

From there, Sternheimer lost a massive pot to Schemion when he ran jacks into aces, and then bowed out in fourth the very next hand. One hand after that, 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $25,000 High Roller champ Alex Bilokur was ousted from the tournament. Bilokur began the day as the second-shortest stack, but just by playing tight he managed to ladder up to third place for 119,400.

Schemion began heads-up play with a sizable chip lead over Greenwood, and it didn't take long for him to clinch victory. First he caught Greenwood bluffing, and then in what would be the final hand, Schemion got it in with a bigger ace and held. Greenwood had to settle for second place and 182,100, which was the second-largest score of his career.

That does it for our coverage from the EPT10 Sanremo High Roller, but the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be back later in the week to bring you live coverage from the 2014 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo? Casino EPT Grand Final including updates from the 100,000 Super High Roller, the 10,600 Main Event, and 25,500 High Roller. Be sure to visit our Live Reporting Section then for all the action.

Max Greenwood Eliminated in 2nd Place (182,100)

Max Greenwood
Max Greenwood

Ole Schemion started the heads-up play very aggressive and won most of the pots. In the three last hands until the elimination he cut down Max Greenwood to 1,200,000 as follows:

Three-bet preflop from Greenwood and Schemion called for 170,000 to see the {7-Spades}{5-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} flop. Greenwood continued for 255,000 and the German called. On the {9-Hearts} turn, the Canadian check-folded when "wizowizo" made it 200,000 to go and was left with 900,000.

In the next hand, Greenwood raised to 65,000 and then continued for 65,000 on the {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{4-Spades} flop. Schemion raised to 175,000 and quickly folded when Greenwood moved all in. It would be the last pot the Canadian takes down.

Schemion raised to 65,000, Greenwood three-bet to 170,000 and the German four-bet to 333,000 after asking his opponent for the stack behind. Greenwood moved all in with the {A-Spades}{4-Spades} and was looked up by the {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} of the German. The {J-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{9-Spades} flop saw both players hit their kicker, the {6-Clubs} turn and {10-Diamonds} river changed nothing and the German rail started clapping.

First Hand of Heads-Up Play to Schemion

Nvel 22 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante

In the first hand of heads-up play, Max Greenwood opened for 55,000 from the button and Ole Schemion called to see a {8-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} flop. Schemion check-called a bet of 60,000, and then led out for 140,000 on the {J-Hearts} turn. Greenwood called and then the {K-Spades} completed the board on the river.

Schemion returned to checking and Greenwood took the opportunity to bet 390,000. Schemion thought long and hard before making the call, and Greenwood insta-mucked.

"Nice call," he admitted. Schemion then showed just the {4-Spades}. "Your other one could be good," Greenwood added.

Alex Bilokur
Alex Bilokur

In the very next hand after Philip Sternheimer fell, Ole Schemion opened for 50,000 from the button and Alex Bilokur called from the big blind. Bilokur then checked the {2-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{a-Spades} flop and Schemion continued for 40,000. Bilokur moved all in for roughly 330,000, and Schemion quickly called.

Schemion: {a-Hearts}{7-Spades}
Bilokur: {2-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

Both players had flopped a pair, but of course Schemion's was best. Neither the {3-Clubs} turn nor {8-Clubs} river helped the Russian, and he was sent out the door in third place.

Bilokur began the day as the second-shortest stack, but just by playing tight he managed to ladder up to third place for 119,400. Not too shabby.

Philip Sternheimer Eliminated in 4th Place (96,700)

Philip Sternheimer

We lose the start-of-the-day chip leader Philip Sternheimer after being crippled in a massive pot against Ole Schemion.

Schemion raised to 67,000 in the small blind and Sternheimer reraised to 174,000 one seat over. "wiziwizo" then clicked it to 349,000 with about 1.2 million behind.

"Will you show if I fold?" asked Sternheimer. He continued to tank and eventually five-bet to 675,000. Schemion moved all in and was called by his opponent.

Sternheimer: {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}
Schemion: {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}

"Come on, one time baby," Sternheimer said to the dealer. The {4-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{K-Spades} board left him crippled with less than a big blind as Schemion doubled up for huge 1,531,000.

One hand later the German limped the button, Sternheimer called all in from the small blind and Max Greenwood in the big blind checked. The {5-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} board was checked down until the river, Schemion bet 25,000 and Greenwood called. Sternheimer held the {3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. Greenwood showed {Q-Spades}{5-Clubs} and Schemion also took the next pot with the {4-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for the flush.
