Eric Hicks Doubles Through Aleksei Altshuller

Nvel 24 : 12,000/24,000, 0 ante
Eric Hicks
Eric Hicks

Eric Hicks and Aleksei Altshuller got all the chips in the middle before the flop.

Hicks: {K-}{Q-}{10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Altshuller: {A-}{A-}{9-}{7-}

Altshuller had the preflop advantage with his aces and Hicks needed help from the deck to survive. The board ran out {8-Spades}{4-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{Q-Spades}, giving Hicks a set of tens for the double-up.

"I'm the luckiest guy in the world," said Hicks as he stacked his newly-acquired chips.

Calvo Climbing

Nvel 24 : 12,000/24,000, 0 ante

With about 80,000 chips already in the middle and the board reading {7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}, Louie Calvo bet 72,000 from the small blind into his lone opponent, Gionni DeMers on the button, who called.

The turn brought the {A-Diamonds} and Calvo checked. DeMers bet 120,000, sending Calvo into the tank. Ultimately, he called.

The {K-Hearts} fell on the river and both players checked. Calvo tabled {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} for a ten-high flush, which was good enough to win the pot.

Hicks Building Back

Nvel 24 : 12,000/24,000, 0 ante

Eric Hicks raised to 84,000 from the button, Gionni DeMers called from the small blind, and Louie Calvo came along as well from the big blind.

The flop came {J-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and both DeMers and Calvo checked. Hicks moved all in and both his opponents folded, and he took the pot to give his short stack a little more life.

One-Nil to Mark Reilly

Nvel 24 : 12,000/24,000, 0 ante

Big stacks Mark Reilly and Rudolph Sawa clashed in a large pot, offering a big clash shortly after Sawa took his seat next to the chip leader.

Their battle started with Alberto Fonseca limping from the button, followed by Reilly's complete from the small blind. Big blind Sawa potted, receiving a fold from Fonseca. Reilly stuck around.

Sawa made things simple, barreling for rounded amounts on the {10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{A-Clubs} flop and the {8-Hearts} turn. Reilly first check-called 200,000, and then check-called another 300,000.

The river {7-Spades} saw both players check and Reilly declared two pairs, exposing his {A-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. Sawa mucked, letting Reilly extend his lead.

Aleksei Altshuller raised to 65,000 from under the gun, Eric Hicks moved all in from the button for a total of 75,000, and Louie Calvo called from the big blind. Altshuller called as well, and he and Calvo were heads-up in the side pot.

The flop came {5-Spades}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and both players checked. The turn brought the {A-Spades} and they checked again. The {10-Diamonds} fell on the river and they checked once more.

Eric Hicks tabled {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{8-Spades} for top set to scoop the pot and triple up.

Brad Ruben Eliminated in 9th Place ($26,648)

Nvel 24 : 12,000/24,000, 0 ante
Brad Ruben

Mark Reilly raised to 50,000 from the first position and Brad Ruben potted from one seat over. The blinds went out of the way but Reilly announced he was all in and Ruben called off for his remaining bits.

Reilly: {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}
Ruben: {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{J-Spades}{3-Clubs}

Reilly turned up double-suited aces, earning a "wow" from Ruben.

The flop {6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{Q-Spades} brought a pair of queens for Ruben, who looked for another connection to escape his elimination. The turn {A-Hearts}, however, was a hammer, already locking the pot for Reilly. "Nice hand," offered Ruben, who knew he was going to payouts.

The river {2-} was meaningless as Ruben walked away in ninth place, earning $26,648.

Rudolph Sawa was moved to Table 1 due to balancing order, and he took Ruben's former spot, left to Mark Reilly. While Reilly is the tournament leader, Sawa is also playing a big stack so things may get spicy in the upcoming hands.

James St Hilaire Eliminated in 10th Place ($26,648)

Nvel 23 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante
James St Hilaire
James St Hilaire

Gerhard Schleicher has been dealt aces and kings within a few hands and he peeked at another monster in the last hand.

Schleicher raised to 55,000 from the button and James St Hilaire responded with a pot-sized three-bet, bumping it to 185,000. Action returned to Schleicher who had a standard request about Hilaire's total stack size. "I started the hand with 311,000," replied St Hilaire.

Schleicher moved all in and St Hilaire called.

St Hilaire: {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Schleicher: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}

Schleicher held aces again but St Hilaire's hand was more than competitive. He got ahead on the {3-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{J-Clubs} turn, hitting two pairs. The river {10-Clubs}, however, helped Schleicher regain the lead as he improved to the nut flush.

St Hilaire sighed and left the tournament in 10th place for a $26,648 payday.
